Richard Gere Mistaken for a Hobo

Today in celebrity gossip: Richard Gere accepted pizza from a kindly stranger, George Clooney may not be marrying you after all, and is Katy Perry really using Tinder?

It's like a gender-reversed Pretty Woman! Except instead of a hooker it's a hobo, and instead of a rich businessman it's a French woman with some leftover pizza. Look, nobody said this comparison was a good one, but let's proceed anyway: Richard Gere was recently mistaken for a hobo by a tourist who offered the seemingly down-on-his-luck street tramp a slice of cold pizza! According to Page Six, a "kindhearted tourist... spotted a man who appeared to be a hobo sifting through the trash near Grand Central Terminal" and offered him her doggie bag containing leftover pizza. But instead of rearing up in shocked disdain, Richard Gere asked "What’s in the bag?" When informed it was pizza—delicious, delicious pizza—the actor did what anybody would do and immediately accepted it. Stars, they're just like us: They dig through the trash and eat any old pizza off the street. As though this Parisian woman wasn't enough of an instant folk hero, guess what she had to say about Gere upon learning his true identity? "Pretty Woman was not my favorite movie, but I really loved Chicago." CORRECT. She is correct with these opinions. Guys, you really need to click on over to the actual story in order to see real paparazzi photos of the pizza transaction happening in realtime, trust me. They are wonderful and you deserve it. Sorry ladies (and you too, gentlemen, wink wink), but your chances of marrying George Clooney just got sliiiightly slimmer. That's because the world's most famous bachelor (wink wink) is now allegedly engaged to "beautiful lawyer Amal Alamuddin." Who is this lady, and why exactly is she good enough for our dear George Clooney?

She studied at Oxford and the New York University School of Law, speaks three languages — French, Arabic and English — and has represented Wikileaks founder Julian Assange in his extradition proceedings with Sweden and is now an adviser to former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, the special envoy to Syria.

Oh, is that all? She honestly sounds lazy. Anyway, rumors of George Clooney's dalliances with Alamuddin first circulated last November when they were spotted dining together in London, and later they made headlines when they enjoyed a highly staged photo-op on the plains of Africa in what some suspected was an elaborate, very expensive way to make Clooney's ex-gf, Stacy Keibler, 'hella jeal.' Either that, or Clooney was simply drawn to some sort of undeniable, primordial jungle drums (wink wink). Congratulations, George Clooney and Amal Amuddin! [Page Six]

"Selena Gomez dating Orlando Bloom?" asks Page Six. Uh, why are you asking US that, Page Six? It it not our job to answer these kinds of questions. Anyway, here's the scoop: Orlando Bloom and Selena Gomez recently attended a taping of Chelsea "Lately" Handler's talk show the other night and all the while appeared "cozy" together. Incriminatingly, they arrived together in the same car and then, scandalously, left together. But is Orlando Bloom legally divorced from Miranda Kerr yet? No, he is not! Is Selena Gomez legally divorced from Justin Bieber yet? They were never married, except perhaps in the eyes of the angels. Anyway, Selena Gomez and Orlando bloom are more than definitely special friendly friends now, so stay tuned to see what happens next. [Page Six]

Katy Perry, a 29-year-old woman, has spent most of her career pretending to be a teenager and it was only a matter of time before her love life began to follow suit. In a classic bit of teenage ambivalence, she's claiming to be single while also obviously dating Diplo! We talked about the Diplo thing before when they allegedly hooked up at Coachella, but Us Weekly reports that the duo were recently spotted dining together in NYC and afterward were spotted straight up canoodling at the after-party for The Amazing Spider-Man 2! Per Us Weekly's source: "They were stealing kisses at first... As the night progressed, there was a lot of touching!" Now, nobody will blame either Diplo or Katy Perry for touching the other. That is fine, they are attractive grown-ups with busyfingers. But then explain why Katy Perry's giving interviews talking about using Tinder so much now? As she told New York's Power 105.1, "I’m really deep on Tinder so I don’t have a whole lot of time." Yes, she was most likely joking, but still. Way to play games with Diplo's heart! Now please clean your room, young lady. [Page Six, Us Weekly]

Playwright Matthew Lombardo's resumé includes plays entitled Looped, High, and Tea at Five, but those credits have all suddenly been bumped down by the one that will be his enduring legacy: "SUED A CANCER-STRICKEN WOMAN FOR GETTING CANCER." Yep, according to Matthew Lombardo and the producers of Looped, when actress Valerie Harper (Rhoda) announced that she had been "diagnosed with brain cancer and had just months to live," she'd waited too long to tell them about this and created "drama" behind the scenes of their traveling production of Looped. When the actress began dropping lines and eventually could no longer continue with the production, she was replaced by another actress (as tends to happen when stage actors contract terminal illnesses), but now Lombardo and company have decided that Harper owes them upwards of $2 million in punitive damages for what they call "inconvenience and behind-the-scenes drama." So, um, very cool. Not only is this a terrific demonstration of basic humanity, it's also a perfect use of the judicial system? Playwright Matthew Lombardo is suing a woman for having the audacity to develop a brain tumor during the production of his play. He seems chill. [Page Six]

Congratulations go out to Chris Zylka, the blond hunk who plays the bully in these new Spider-Man movies (the bully probably has a name, but it doesn't matter, all that matters is that Chris Zylka plays him) and who also once starred in The Secret Circle and more importantly the very good MTV original slasher film My Super Psycho Sweet 16. But enough about Chris Zylka's illustrious career, let's talk about his engagement to fashion designer Hanna Beth! They are engaged now. Congratulations to the lucky couple; let's just all cross our fingers that their marriage results in more Instagram photos like this one:
