Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry ignited a firestorm of controversy when he released his latest campaign ad this week -- entitled "Strong" -- that attacks President Barack Obama and the repeal of the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy.
"I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian, but you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate or pray in school," the GOP hopeful says in the ad.
Gay rights groups are asking people to report the video to YouTube for hate speech and a Change.org petition wants one million people to push the "dislike" button on the video by Friday night.
Others are having a field day with the realization that Perry's jacket looks remarkably similar to the jacket Heath Ledger's character wore in the 2006 film, "Brokeback Mountain." In the film, Ledger's character engages in a decades-long homosexual relationship with his friend, played by Jake Gyllenhaal.
Perry may have unknowingly aligned himself with a "gay cowboy" movie, but the jacket is popular with hunters and others who must face cold conditions on a regular basis.
* British actor Robert Pattinson has been spotted wearing a jacket similar to the one Perry wears in the video. However, the "Twilight" heartthrob prefers his Carhartt jacket in a different color.
* Actor Johnny Depp is known for his grungy style, and one of his go-to jackets -- both onscreen and in real life -- is a jacket similar to the one Perry wore in the "Strong" ad. His is also a different color, though.
* Jake Gyllenhaal wears a jacket almost identical to Perry's jacket in the film "Brothers." In the film, Gyllenhaal plays a blue-collar worker.
* Rapper Nas is credited with popularizing the tan Carhartt jackets in the hip hop community. He even raps about it in a song with fellow rapper Jadakiss: "What If."
"What if I neva wore an Army jacket? Carhartt to match it, unlaced Timbs," he raps in the song.
