Rick Schroder became a household name at the age of 12 (playing young Ricky Stratton on "Silver Spoons"), and the actor says life on the sitcom's set was just as cool as one would imagine.

"'Silver Spoons' was great memories - absolutely the best," Rick, now 41, fondly recalled in an interview with Billy Bush and Kit Hoover to promote his new CMT original movie, "To The Mat" on Wednesday's Access Hollywood Live . "I had video games to play as much as I wanted on set, and I had that train which was pretty cool [and] the car bed."

While working on the hit comedy was a dream come true for Rick, a challenge quickly arose in the form of his stunning co-star, Erin Gray (who played his onscreen father's love interest -- Kate Summers Stratton), and her on-set exercise habits.

"[Erin] was something. [She's] still something -- still beautiful," Rick told Billy and Kit, shaking his head. "I was a teenage boy going through puberty during 'Silver Spoons' and it was horrible!

"She got into yoga during the middle of 'Silver Spoons' and it was cruel," he continued, laughing. "Stretching in front of a teenage boy is not the right thing to do!"

After a five-year run, the show came to an end in 1987 and a then-17-year-old Rick returned to public school for the first time since fourth grade.

"Nobody would talk to me. I was so different from all of them," he told Billy and Kit of his lonely transition back into public education. "Learning how to interact with kids again when I was 18 was... interesting."

Despite his star status - and all those Tiger Beat features -- Rick said he lacked finesse with the ladies and was thrilled to find his wife, Andrea Bernard, at the age of 20 and settle down.

The pair married in 1992, have four children together, and have been going strong for almost 20 years - a feat Rick credits to hard work and commitment.

"What's been the key for y'all staying together?" Kit asked Rick, noting that marital longevity is oftentimes rare in Hollywood.

"Just not [being] willing to give up," Rick answered. "There's no other option - that's the way I look at it. There's no other option than to work things out [and] stay together."

Catch Rick in "To The Mat" -- August 17 at 8 PM on CMT.
