Rick Springfield, Son Liam Springthorpe Talk General Hospital

Rick Springfield was back on the set of "General Hospital" on Thursday, and so was his son - Liam Springthorpe - who has also joined the drama, as the cast prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary on April 1.

"He's actually gonna blaze his own path," Rick responded when Access Hollywood asked about Liam following in dad's footsteps by joining the show's cast (Rick rose to fame playing Dr. Noah Drake on the show in the 1980s). "It's an interesting first step, I think, on to TV."'

Liam admitted he didn't actually watch his dad - who has played Dr. Noah Drake off and on throughout the years - on the soap.

"I did not, but it's been really great. I've had a really pleasant time here and everything is, so far, going very smoothly. It's been very exciting to kind of branch out and start doing some television," Liam told Access.

Rick said he didn't actually give his son, Liam, who will play an undercover cop on the soap (his "GH" son - Patrick Drake -- is played by Jason Thompson) any advice.

"It's his own path, I mean [it] truly is," Rick said. "I know, because we're doing it together, it seems like I'm going, 'OK, this works on this,' or something, but it's totally not that... It was his choice to become an actor and a musician."

As for Rick, he's the latest daytime hunk to head back to the ABC soap (Jack Wagner recently returned as Frisco Jones), but he's not sure how viewers will find Noah when he finally hits the screen - or if he's even playing Noah Drake.

"I haven't seen a script," he told Access . "I have no idea if I'm, Eli Love or [if] I'm Noah Drake or [if] I'm Rick Springfield. I have no idea what I'm gonna be this time, but I'm open for - 'cause the 50th -- open for whatever you guys want."

Rick said he does expect to perform at the upcoming Nurse's Ball, the big "GH" charity event that the character Sabrina Santiago is reviving.
