Ricky Gervais to Host Golden Globes Again

Ricky Gervais to Host Golden Globes Again

Obviously the Hollywood Foreign Press wasn't as offended by Ricky Gervais as they said they were, since they're picking him to host January's Golden Globes award ceremony. The chatter of Gervais going too far in roasting certain Scientologists and the ensuing and well-publicized on-again-off-again courtship of Gervais that followed came to a head today as the HFPA confirmed that Gervais would host.  "After weeks of rumours it’s finally official—Ricky Gervais will be back to host the Golden Globes for a third year," reads a statement from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. "While many welcome Gervais’s return, not everyone is happy with the decision because last year his blunt one-liners targeting big-name celebrities caused anger and resentment in some quarters." Not everyone is happy and Big-name celebrities are obviously smug codes for Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, and Hollywood's Scientologists who may or may not be smarting from his monologue earlier this year.  But it's also a savvy nod to the controversy (and the ratings and viral replays that followed) of Gervais's opening volley, which is the reason why we're still talking about this "controversial" pick today.
