RIM CEO: There’s nothing wrong with our company
5,000 layoffs? Delays of major products? Quarterly losses totaling more than $500 million? “‘Tis but a scratch,” says RIM CEO Thorsten Heins. Canada.com reports that Heins gave his company a much-needed pep talk on a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation interview on Tuesday morning, and said that “there’s nothing wrong with the company as it exists right now” and that “this company is not ignoring the world out there, nor is it in a death spiral.” Heins did acknowledge that RIM was in a tight spot at the moment but said it is because the company is “in the middle of a transition” and was “positive we will emerge successfully from that transition.” To be fair, putting on a brave face is about the only thing Heins can do at this juncture as he did inherit a company that was already in a tailspin when he took over. But with the delay of BlackBerry 10 until early next year, things are looking very grim for RIM right now.
