RoadFish.com Weighs in on Rising Gas Prices and Presses President Obama to Address Energy Issues with Real Solutions

RoadFish.com men's lifestyle and finance magazine believes there is a better way to deal with rising gas prices and questions what President Obama is doing to halt further increase.

Miami, FL (PRWEB) February 24, 2012

RoadFish.com men’s lifestyle and finance magazine today expressed its shared opinion with the majority that gas prices are outlandishly high this time of year and challenges President Obama to offer a real solution as to how he intends to solve the gas inflation. Gas prices, which are continuing to rise, are higher than usual this winter, making a hefty financial dent in Americans’ wallets.

Jim Kuhnhenn of the Associated Press reported that the current average gas price of $3.58 per gallon is the highest it’s ever been for this time of year. The article states the President Obama will address the concern over the nation’s rising gas prices in Florida on Thursday, at the University of Miami. According to the AP, President Obama will be promoting an energy strategy that the federal administration claims will reduce US dependence on foreign oil in the long run. The article goes on to say that a new AP-GfK poll shows that 58 percent of Americans polled disapprove of what President Obama is doing regarding the increasing gas prices, even though his approval rating on the economy has overall grown.

David Nakamura of The Washington Post reported that gas prices have increased 29 cents for regular octane gas since December and in the past week alone have spiked 20 cents per gallon in California and several other parts of the country. Nakamura stated that experts are predicting there’s a chance that motorists could see $5 per gallon gas prices by the summertime.

RoadFish’s editor is quoted as saying, “Bottom line our country is completely insane on the subject of energy. The amount of money wasted each day of 600,000 cars going the same direction on the same freeway from places like Orange County to the San Fernando Valley without there being more high speed, quality public transport in place is ridiculous. If you took the money Californians spends on gas going up and down I-5 for six months I bet you it would be enough money to build a high-speed rail system that would eliminate half the traffic.”

The above-mentioned Washington Post article included a statement that Obama made at Thursday’s talk at the University of Miami: “Since it’s an election year, they’re already dusting off their three-point plans for $2 gas. I’ll save you the suspense: Step one is drill, step two is drill, and step three is keep drilling. Well the American people aren’t stupid. You know that’s not a plan. . . It’s a strategy to get politicians through an election. You know there are no quick fixes to this problem, and you know we can’t just drill our to lower prices.”

Republican presidential candidates have latched onto and criticized Obama’s decision to reject a permit for a cross-country oil pipeline, and are promising lower gas prices as part of their campaign. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich claims he can lower prices to $2.50 per gallon.

RoadFish.com’s editor feels that "it is a waste for most Americans to have to stress about gas prices. I'm sure we'll see people putting their tax refunds towards utilities like gas, especially in the winter months when homes need heat. It's unfortunate because tax refunds could be going towards better things like digging folks out of debt, which will boost their credit report and overall financial situation. To use it on fuel is simply disappointing."

The above Washington Post article reported that Obama said Thursday that he empathized with the public’s pain at the pump, but made a case for his comprehensive “all of the above” energy policy as being the smartest way to protect the US from the fluctuating foreign oil market. Obama’s energy policy includes promoting increased domestic production, improved fuel efficiency standards and greater investment in clean energy innovation. According to the Washington Post, Obama stated Thursday, “There is no silver bullet. There never has been. It’s the easiest thing in the world make phony election-year promises about lower gas prices. What’s harder is to make a serious, sustained commitment to tackle a problem that may not be solved in one year or one term or even one decade. But that’s the kind of commitment we need right now.”
