Rodney King autopsy under way; results weeks away

RIALTO, Calif. (AP) — An autopsy on Rodney King is being conducted, but it is not expected to lead to an immediate declaration on what killed him.

San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller says the autopsy is under way Monday afternoon. She says a cause of death determination will not be made until after investigators have toxicology results, which typically take six to eight weeks.

King was pulled from his pool in Rialto, Calif., early Sunday morning.

The 47-year-old became famous after he was severely beaten by Los Angeles police in 1991. The acquittal and mistrial of four officers tried for felony assault a year later sparked the Los Angeles riots.

Rialto police are investigating King's death as an apparent drowning and say there are no signs of foul play.
