Romney predicts tea party will turn on Gingrich

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Mitt Romney is mocking Newt Gingrich's long record in Washington and says conservative tea party voters eventually will reject the former House speaker who's Romney chief presidential rival.

Romney tells reporters in South Carolina that he thinks the state's tea party voters will turn on Gingrich because of his work for the mortgage company Freddie Mac and his consulting time in Washington.

Romney, who's been endorsed by South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, isn't sure whether the work Gingrich did after he left the House is considered lobbying. But Romney says that "when it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, typically it's a duck."

South Carolina holds its first-in-the-South primary Jan. 21. Gingrich leads Romney in South Carolina polls and has emphasized his tea party support.

Why is it that the two parties are the only ones to say who can run and who can`t? I think they already know who is the pick all of this so called running is so much #$%$ We can`t control what they do ,like pay raises 170.000.00 per year give me a break and FREE health care and don`t forget their S.S payment when they retire is the same as their pay while in office and they don`t pay anything into it !

Want to see an end run around the two Party system. Check out Ron Paul.
You get the best of both parties, and none of the baggage of either.
      • Owen And Donna 5 mths ago
I don`t think we can get rid of the two parties however I don`t to all we need is more postive control of our country.

I'm trying desperatly to figure out the new republicans. The only candidate the Dems are afraid of is Romney but nobady in the Republican party seems to understnd that. Instead thy are more concerned about the Tea Party who are just as radical as The party in the white house now. This country needs a good centist party to solve all the problems we face. Another radical administration ( either REP or DEM ) will ruin us. Can anyone invision another four years of nothing being done by the House or Senate?
      • Sany 5 mths ago
Central may not get things done either
      • Sany 5 mths ago
Well lett me help you figure it out. The only candidate the dems are afraid are the ones that are inside the corrupt political system, which is their dem/rep cycle of keeping the dem/rep cycle alive without the interference of a third party. Do you even know how this works? This whole system is controlled by two parties. Thats a pretty simple statement. You should study it. Oh and by the way. These "new republican" you're confusing The Tea Party with Republicans. We're not, we're just playing the game like everyone has to until a legal national opportunity arrives on the scene for a third party candidate to be able to be placed on the ballor in all states. You Dems and Reps are both afraid of that, aren't you?
      • Max 5 mths ago
Alexander, you are SO correct. While in "normal" times I am happy with nothing getting done in washington (because nothing is better than whatever new they come up with), we are at a point here problems actually need solutions.

The Tea Party should have formed itself as an independent party instead of letting the Republican party attach itself to it and take over its message.....it really did have promise. The tea party should be on board with Ron Paul and leave the social conservative #$%$ aside that the Republican party has tainted the tea party with

I agree, a viable 3rd. Party is needed, actualy, since there is not a nickel worth of difference beteen dem. And rep. Parties, a second party would be a blessing!
      • Maggoty John 5 mths ago
Agreed with the third party, but as for the republican party attaching itself to the T.P it was the other way around--bigger fools them!
      • Saban Nation 5 mths ago
@Gus: What do you mean by "viable?" The Libertarian Party is one of the longest standing parties there are, and they're still not "viable." Half this counry probably agrees with the Libertarian Party and don't even know it.

Romney, the inventor of forced heath care. None of them are worth a dime. I was sure hoping the republicans would come up with a decent person. Well ..............looks like I will vote for Obama , the lesser of the evils.

There ARE decent Republicans in this race. Just stop letting the media tell you who they are.
      • Winnebago 5 mths ago
Winfred, I do not think you would know evil if it was staring you in the face. It is idiots like you that elected Obummer, in the first place..
      • Winfred Carson 5 mths ago
So that is a Thumbs Down?? Lol! I guess I will vote for .......well just cannot bring myself to vote for any of them. May be the first time in my life I will just sit this one out.
I would like to see an honest, hard working farmer or shop owner or ordinary person run for election and the people get behind them. All the current ones are liars, change their minds weekly, None seem to wish to acknowledge that out of control spending has to stop, and all wish to protect the huge government machine and cut benefits to the people to support their own greed. But some of those benefits to the people need to cease too, aid to foreign nations, welfare and food stamps to immigrants that are here illegally and so on.

But I will not hold my breath, honesty, loyalty , truth, and hard work and common sense have long gone. I quit hoping people would wake up years ago, as it seems they are simply too passive to demand a change.

Romney is just turning into a pandering joke or maybe he has always been a pandering joke. That is probably more accurate.

I don't like Gingrich's attitude. He has an air of holier than thou and superiority that don't fit him at all. He is trying to project himself in a General MacArthur personality. He is just a phoney fat old slob. He is not honest and can not be trusted. Do not send him to the store to get milk with your last remaining food dollars.

It sure is, it's lobbying what Newt did. And as Romney said, if it walks and squacks like a duck, it's a duck !!!

      Here are the facts:
      (1) The Illegals are scared to death of Romney
      (2) Polls show that Romney would kick Obama's Butt
      (3) Polls show that Gingrich would lose against Obama
      (4) Its been reported that Pro-Illegal Immigration groups and Democrat stratagists have been trying to boost Gingrich UP because they see net as easier to beat.

Craig: You poor brain washed LIB "drone" voters. So, you parrot what your LIB masters tell you to say in exchange for your welfare checks like most of the other poor Democrats..

Do you not understand that Obama has tried to pass 4 times the largest most massive Amnesty in the history of the world ? Do you not understand that for each illegal that gets Amnesty, they get to bring in 4 to 10 family members ? Are you that uneducated to understand how this would impact the US ecconomy, the massive loss of American jobs for Americans.... The poor Americans would be forced to get LESS because Obama would be forsing them to share with the 12-20 Million Ilegal immigrants and their 30-45 Million family members. Are you really that stupid not o understand these simple facts ? Do you understand that Americans are kiled and injured by Illegal Immigrants every day. Google it if you cant afford a TV to see the news. The Democrat mastes under Obama are only using YOU for votes..

If Obama cared, would he want YOU to lose YOUR jobs to be handed over to the Illegals and force YOU to get less, so that he Illegal families can then get more.

      Get it yet ?
    • Steve  •  Baltimore, United States  •  5 mths ago
The Illegals LOVE OBAMA the most with his 4 major attempts to give ALL 12-20 MILLION Illegals Amnesty which means they could bring in as many as 30-45 MILLION o their family members !

Guess whos jobs they would steal ?
Guess whos TAX paid benefits they would STEAL ?
Guess who would LOSE benefits to share with tens of Millions of them ?

Do you get it yet ? Obama doesnt care about YOU. he just wants your votes... And if you are too stupid to understand this, YOU deserve to have YOUR jobs and benefits taken away to support Obama's illegal Immigrant buddies.

The Tea Party is a movement not an actual political party. You people know that right? It is a Patriotic assembly of people who want to restore America from leftwing communist decline.

The OWS idiots are nothing like the Tea Party movement. They rioted for free college tuition and an end to capitalism, they had speakers like Savoj Zizek who is a Marxist-Leninist who works for New York University(go figure). And were backed by communist George Soros and his Media Matters tax exempt(of course, wouldn't want billionaire Soros to pay any taxes) non profit.

The Tea Party movement supports any conservative patriot who is not Obama and not a communist/marxist/leninist/socialist/fascist/progressive/leftwing/anti-colonialist/liberal/democrat etc etc.etc. To reiterate, Anyone who is not Obama.

Newt Gingrich and Christine Odonnell, the 'I am not a witch' and the 'I am not a lobbyist' ticket.
Of course it will all fall apart when Newt is found in Christine's 'Cauldron'/hot tub. :)
    • Walter  •  5 mths ago
Of course they will turn on Gingrich. It is what they do.
That doesn't mean they will ever turn toward Romney.
In fact, their turning away from Romney is why they got to Gingrich in the first place.
