Romney and His Surrogates: It's Complicated

CINCINNATI -- Mitt Romney accused Rick Santorum on Monday of making a major contribution to reckless Republican spending, helping the GOP “spend like Democrats,” by voting repeatedly to raise the debt limit while he was in Congress. The attack came as Romney stood next to a Republican senator who voted last year to raise the debt limit.

"I don’t believe it’s appropriate for us to keep raising the debt ceiling every year," said Romney. "He voted five times to raise the debt ceiling without getting compensating cuts in spending. During his time in the Senate, only two terms, the size of the federal government grew 80 percent."

Romney made the remarks at the Meridian Bioscience company outside of Cincinnati, where he was flanked by Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, a prominent endorser and potential vice presidential pick. Portman voted to raise the debt ceiling in August as part of a deal that involved future spending cuts. He called it “a step in the right direction,” but 19 of his GOP Senate colleagues and 66 House Republicans voted against the agreement.

This isn’t the first awkward surrogate moment for Romney. Earlier this month, former Missouri senator Jim Talent was asked how he could attack Santorum on a conference call for voting for the Medicare prescription drug plan, a new unfunded entitlement program, when he voted the same way. He said the issue was not his record but Santorum’s, since Santorum is the one running against Romney.

stupid article I believe Santorum will self destruct. He has to, his views on a number of subjects show he has no respect for civil liberties and women's rights. The worst part of it all is that I really believe Santorum is mentally unbalanced. For him to pose as a religious model for the rest of us is, frankly, ridiculous. He was voted the MOST CORRUPT Senator in the U.S. in both 2005 and 2006 by CREW, a political watchdog organization. And he was voted the BIGGEST SPENDER of any U.S. Senator. And he lost his bid to be re-elected in his own state by 18%, the LARGEST LOSS OF ANY SENATOR IN U.S. HISTORY !!! His own constituents threw him out on his AZ$$.

Actually that honor has been had by Barney Frank. Barney has him hands down by a lot for years. Whatever you think he overspent, old Barney had him beat 10 times over.
As for Civil Liberties,Do you mean the Liberal version or the one that most of the rest of us adhere to? What do you mean by woman's rights? Does that mean that a church organization has to be involved with the whole contriceptive insurance thing? No tax payers that I know of want any of their tax dollars going to pay for it. As far as giving himself a raise, they all did or at least most of them. So I can't go by that. All the Senators and Congressmen have been doing it for years with both parties taking part.

By the way I just looked up CREW and they are a liberal watchdog group. This is why they have ignored Barney Frank.

And he was also thrown out of office when you had a Democratic majority. How conveinent.

You must be a liberal because I can't see that they have anything to be positive about except Odumma. You are going to be the one to self destruct. If Obama gets another term then you can go to Japan,or the Philippines for financial help(actually they already own a portion of out debt[much of that information can be found if you check out the Treasury Dept's own website, they have to give information on the debt every year to Congress.] )

So since when does civil liberties include killing babies? Abortion? There are more than a few all grown up people who should be aborted. A baby may be an inconvenience to you, so kill it. How about the ignorant people who are an inconvenience to me, can I abort them also? Should my tax dollars and insurance costs pay for the killing of human beings, born or not? Bottom line is that abortionists are immoral, they know it and they want the government to force their immorality upon others.

"stupid article I believe Santorum will self destruct"
Santorum self-destructed long ago, as did Romney, Newt, and Paul.
They are now working on the total destruction of the Republican Party.

I'll tell you why you're traitors teabaggers, and it's not because you're bad people, just ignorant.

You're supporting the interests of big business over the rights of Americans
by supporting the very people taking away your rights and giving all your money to the rich.

What in the world makes you think the Republicans actually want to cut government? They've never done it before. EVER. Bush actually created the largest government in all of US history. Truth!

In fact the Repubs blew the F'ing budget out of the window over the last decade and created the biggest deficit in all of US history. So why now? Why? I'll tell you, they want to make cuts that help YOU, you and the middle class and the poor. Are they getting rid of the tax cuts for the filthy rich? Aw hell no. Because they really just want your money and to give mote to the rich. They want to send your jobs overseas to make more for them. They want to bail out the banks and create wars, again to give to their crony capitalism friends. Dude it never ends.

We've had 30 years of trickle own lies. You rich yet? Didn't think so. The US ranks 10th in the world on a chart of achieving the American dream. 10th. Read it and weep. 0ver the last 30 years the separation between rich and middle class has widened to the biggest in all of history. The rich own you and they want even more. The GOP is 100% bought and paid for by military contractors, big oil, and American businesses sending jobs (your jobs and mine) overseas to make even bigger profits, which then pay themselves and lobby the government, all while paying zero taxes. We're screwed and you're supporting the wrong F'ing side, as usual. Oh yeah they give money to the Dems as well. That's called 'hedging your bets'. They want to own both sides.

So what about all the lies about Obama, biggest taxes ever....
...Taxes are the lowest in decades.

He wants all your money and everyone on food stamps...

Go to youtube and search for 'Food Stamp president' -You guessed it- Bush.

More people were on food stamps and took more money during Bush's presidency than Obama by far. Guess who gave out the 2nd most money for food stamps? Bush SR.

Next google 'Red State Socialism' and click the first link.

States who TOOK the most money FROM the federal government, Republicans states, states who GAVE the most TO the federal government, Democrat states.

Maybe you Republican supporters will finally realize you've been duped all this time...or you'll just deny the facts as usual...

Not bad for an Texan. Seems the people in Texas are finally finishing school. In the past they were bad like W Bush and Perry. Was worried about your educational system there.. Good show.

But the Tea Party loves him. The GOP is trying to distance itself from them, but it doesn't seem to be working with the way this guy plays to them. Somebody forgot to tell them that Tea Parties are for little girls with imaginary friends.

All of our Nation's social issues being mentioned, existed when the Democrates were in full control of the White House, and Congress. All of these same social issues ,also existed, when the Republicans were in full control of the White House, and Congress. Which is to say, these social issues never seem to get totally resolved, no matter which Party is in control of the Government. But,as we are seeing, and hearing, these social issues serve the Media well to mud ball candidates that they do not support, and to use to control and distract from our Nation's depressed economic state. If our Nation's economy was great, the Media would be using economic issues to control and distract from our Nation's depressed social state. For now, we have to decide, do we want a Leader that has strong leanings to regulate our Bedroom, or a Leader that has strong leanings to regulate our Economy??
      • William 3 mths ago
        I choose neither
      • GotravEL 3 mths ago
Well,Well,Well.William,I guess you are happy with what we have. Any of them is a big improvement over Obama(with the exception of Romney). Do you ever bother to look up the candidates,or do you just go but what the media says?

We can't afford to have people like you who just want to sit on the fence. Or the road. As they say,"he would stands in the middle of the road gets hit by traffic going both ways". So get off of your butt and do something. We have the government that we have because people like you decided to sit this one out.

So go to Wikipedia and check them all out.
      • William 3 mths ago
Lol waaaaay off GotravEL. The OP asked if we wanted someone to regulate our bedrooms or our economy. I dont want anyone to do either. I'm certainly not happy with what we have, but all of your GOPers are exactly the SAME AS OBAMA. They would all be owned by banks and wall street, and those who profit off of our unceasing wars. But I have researched all of the candidates, I'm not sitting on any fences, and I'm not sitting this one out.I'm voting for a candidate in whom I believe, and who shares my values. And if he is not the Republican nomination, then I'm going to vote for Obama. Because #$%$ guys. The GOP has strayed. It needs to correct itself or go away

The problem with Romney is his "phony theology" that is not based on the Bible.
      .....signed:(Rick Santorum)
    • BallsofKungfucious  •  3 mths ago
yikes As both Mitt and Rick open their respective trap more often during the campaign , Rick Perry is starting to sound like a nuclear scientist!
    • Lance  •  3 mths ago
As Rick Perry once said,"there are 3 thing wrong with Mitt Romney":
      1) He can't associate with the common man.
      2) He often shoots from the hip.
      3) Ah, hmm, wait.
    • Dylan  •  3 mths ago
Romney's still losing nationally, but I've been keeping track of Michigan polls, and Santorum's once-big lead has been declining steadily. It's reaching the point where they tie. If Romney does at least average in the next debate, he's likely to win. Romney's also held on to his lead in Arizona, whose primary is on the same day. That will likely reverse Santorum's momentum back to Romney.
    • John  •  3 mths ago
Who do we have left that hasn't been atop the GOP polls that we can turn to? Let's see.........Oh, $%&@!

The Republicans are sure making it hard for me to vote for any of them. Is there anyone else available.
    • James  •  3 mths ago
Has anyone noticed who has been unsettlingly quiet during this campaign? The Republican Tea Party! Whatever happened to them? Oh, don't tell me they got rolled back into the Republican Party, the very party that spawned them to begin with. Oh, wait, that can't be right. What about all those "democrats" who supposedly are "members" of the Tea Party? uh-huh.

    • goldcountryguy  •  3 mths ago
Fewer and fewer people like the Mittster. He's not two-faced, he's multi-faced. Can spin on a dime and say whatever you want to hear. Anywhere. Anytime. To anyone. He's severely conservative, ya know. Except when he's moderate. He's pro-corporations. Except when he's Mr. Everyman. He WILL turn severely moderate if he gets the nomination. You get that, right? Jeans. Shirt with no tie. Pro working man. The whole nine yards.
    • RinkuB  •  3 mths ago
Yep, exploiting all those tax loopholes and managing those tax shelters in the Caymans is getting really complicated, especially when combined w/ statements that he likes to fire employees and doesn't care about the poor, who in his dreamworld, constitute only 5% of the US population.
    • survivor  •  3 mths ago
if that is complicated...to uncomplicate thing...romney should talk about it with his "happy" sheriff from arizona...
