Ron Paul Addresses Boos From South Carolina GOP Debate

    Charles Dharapak/AP Photo/Pool

Ron Paul is pushing back against critics of his "Golden Rule" in foreign policy and questioned those who booed him at Monday's GOP presidential debate.

Speaking in Spartanburg, S. C. Tuesday afternoon, Paul referenced America's threats of an oil embargo on Iran.

"This is why I bring up the "the golden rule" if we don't want people to ban oil imports to our country, why should we do that to another country," said Paul adding "I don't know why that is such a negative term for people to boo that. "

Paul also said that America needs to do away with the idea that it will only talk to nations it deems as perfect adding only until America is itself perfect can it make such judgments.

Paul's willingness to stand up for what he believes in when it comes to U.S. involvement in foreign countries hurt him repeatedly in Monday's debate.

The conservative Republican electorate in South Carolina booed Paul's answers on foreign policy and Texas Gov. Rick Perry even suggested that a gong should have been used to cut Paul off.

On Wednesday, Paul takes a break from the campaign trail and returns to Washington to vote against the increase in the nation's debt ceiling.

The fiscal conservative called Wednesday's vote a "gimmick" and said even if Congress votes it down it automatically goes into effect.

"It's such a mess," said Paul.

Want a sign that the corporate media is controlled by the government? Question: Why haven't every so called "journalist" moderator inserted questions on the NDAA? That should be a main talking point in every debate. Or am I the only one frowning at this fascist piece of legislation just signed into law?

I am sooo glad that we have the internet for stories like this. We need the forums active and everyone's voice being heard. Thinking for yourselves and not having the media make up your minds is the way to go people!

Funny how any article bashing Paul always has overwhelming support for Paul in the comment sections. I think the Media is in serious denial!

Michael: I don't like liberals like Ron Paul (or any other liberal) who wants to make America weak and allow Americans enemies to become so powerful that they will one day overwhelm America and we won't stand a chance.
However you are de facto saying you support murder under the fake phony name of 'free choice' .
The woman made her choice when she CHOSE to have sex and the baby never had any chance to have HIS choice.

Paul was not asked enough questions for the crowd to do anything "repeatedly".
If fact, he stood there for the first 40 minute without a single question.

"Paul's willingness to stand up for what he believes in when it comes to U.S. involvement in foreign countries hurt him repeatedly in Monday's debate." But unlike the other candidates, Ron Paul doesn't change his tune to suit the audience.

"Paul's willingness to stand up for what he believes in when it comes to U.S. involvement in foreign countries hurt him repeatedly in Monday's debate."

Repeatedly? Last I checked he was only booed once during the whole debate and then less then 10 seconds later won applause when he joked that "Americans just can't wait to get into another war!" He also won major brownie points when he said that "We build a billion dollar embassy in Bagdad that's bigger than the Vatican, you call that 'Defense Spending', I call that waste!"

There are a large percentage of Americans that agree with Ron Paul on foreign policy. Empire needs to be part of the discussion. If anyone has noticed America is broke.
    • DaveBliss  •  4 mths ago
Americans don't know what Americans want. Talk about an "out of touch" group of people. We want to tell everyone else what to do, but don't want anyone telling us what to do. We want the government to do everything for us, but we want someone else to pay for it. We want to be loved, but want to be powerful enough to push anyone around. We want to be "safe", but we want our "freedom". And we wonder why the Kardashians are on TV.

Ron Paul is the same today as he was 20 years ago and NO other candidate can say that.
    • Unanamous  •  4 mths ago
I am not a die hard Paul supporter. I do agree that the golden rule is proper for government and companies as it is people. Who could deny that?

"Paul's willingness to stand up for what he believes in when it comes to U.S. involvement in foreign countries hurt him repeatedly in Monday's debate."

Oh, really? I, and apparently millions of other Americans, find it refreshing for a politican to stand up for what he/she believes in. And, I'm sure MOST of the good folks of South Carolina will agree upon further reflection. I mean, really, who can seriously "boo and jeer" the Golden Rule?

Winning debates is not about getting the biggest punch-line. Winning debates is about making sensible, coherent, and principaled arguments, being consistent and demonstrating integrity, and yes, standing up for what one believes in. Based on these critieria, Dr, Paul wins hands down. GO RON PAUL!

Ron Paul wants to reduce the size of government at all levels including the military.

A small government that doesn't control much won't attract the oodles of PAC money, and all those political types will have to find a productive job in the private sector.

Is it any wonder there is a full court press to stifle his message?
    • Brock  •  4 mths ago
Common sense is foreign to the political arena, therefore it's booed. The ultimate sanction would be producing our own oil and cut off all that money we send overseas. But no...that makes too much sense!
    • ron s  •  Fort Myers, Florida  •  4 mths ago
they think ron paul wants to close militarey bases in the U.S., not even close,he wants to shut down over seas bases and bring our troops home. i would convert most of the troops and bases to national guard bases. that way we could always be strong and defend our selves. heres the answer to perrrys argument about weaking the military, china doesnt have bases all over the world, yet no one would be dumb enought to attack them..nuff said..WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!!!

I'm about as far to the left as you can get, but massive kudos to Paul for helping to bring the truth about American foreign policy into the spotlight.
