    Roper Industries 4Q net income rises 13 percent

    SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — Roper Industries Inc., a medical and industrial equipment maker, reported Thursday that its fourth-quarter net income climbed 13 percent on improved sales across all business segments.

    But its shares fell as overall revenue came in below Wall Street expectations.

    The Sarasota, Fla., company said that it earned $121.7 million, or $1.23 per share, for the three months ended Dec. 31 compared with $107.3 million, or $1.10 per share, a year ago.

    The performance beat the $1.21 per share that analysts surveyed by FactSet predicted.

    Revenue increased 9 percent to $739.2 million from $679.5 million. Revenue improved across all of its segments, which include industrial technology, energy systems and controls, medical and scientific imaging and RF technology.

    Wall Street expected higher revenue of $762.5 million.

    Roper's stock dropped $3.23, or 3.4 percent, to $93.25 in afternoon trading. The shares have traded in a range of $64.90 to $96.91 over the past year.

    Net orders climbed for the industrial technology and energy systems and controls divisions.

    Full-year net income rose 32 percent to $427.2 million, or $4.34 per share, from $322.6 million, or $3.34 per share, in the previous year. Annual revenue climbed 17 percent to $2.8 billion from $2.39 billion.

    Looking ahead, Roper forecasts 2012 earnings of $4.67 to $4.87 per share. It anticipates first-quarter earnings between $1.01 and $1.05 per share. The outlooks exclude future acquisitions.

    Analysts expect full-year earnings of $4.72 per share and first-quarter earnings of $1.03 per share.
