COMMENTARY | Just when one thought that all hope was lost, comes the news, via the Associated Press, that Roseanne Barr, actress and comedian, has decided to run for president under the Green Party banner. Or perhaps goddess.
Her announcement, posted in two video segments on her blog, contained some familiar Occupy Wall Street cant about the "one percent" vs. the "99 percent" and how the Democrats and Republicans are all bought and paid for. However the videos are prefaced with this intriguing statement.
"I'm tired of watching as men destroy all the world. Everything used to be beautiful when women were in charge, and now I, working as the physical manifestation of the goddess Isis and the reincarnation of Cleopatra, have decided to save the world."
One barely knows how to react to that. The late Elizabeth Taylor, playing Cleopatra, said it so much better when she admonished Rex Harrison, playing Julius Caesar, when she proclaimed, "I AM Isis. I am worshipped by millions who believe it."
Is Roseanne running for president or is she founding a cult? It is interesting that she chose Cleopatra to be the reincarnation of. The Queen of the Nile was no piker when it came to waging war, or at least getting her lovers to wage war for her. Unfortunately she chose less than wisely in Marc Antony, who botched the Battle of Actium, thus handing the Roman world to that cold but efficient fish Octavian.
Roseanne is no shrinking violet when it comes to inflicting political violence. According to Breitbart TV she once advocated sending rich bankers to reeducation camps and, in some cases, to be beheaded by the guillotine.
Clearly Roseanne is the candidate for those folks who think that Barack Obama is not radical enough nor Ron Paul crazy enough. Anyone who has as part of their platform instituting a reign of terror bears watching. This is especially true because she thinks she is literally a goddess. Perhaps instead of a guillotine she will cause a temple to be erected to her where rich bankers and other enemies of the people can be sacrificed to her.
Roseanne's problem is that she does not fit the image of a goddess of love and beauty. Liz Taylor in her prime could pull it off. But Roseanne seems more suited as Eris, the Greek goddess of discord. All will worship her and despair.
