Rudy Giuliani Calls Beyonce’s “Formation” Super Bowl Performance An “Attack” On Police

As Beyonce succeeded at injecting a healthy round of black pride into her latest single, she has also succeeded in upsetting Fox News and former New York City mayor, Rudy Giuliani. During a sit-down with the news station on Monday (Feb. 8). Giuliani gave his thoughts on Queen Bey’s performance of “Formation” at the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday night (Feb. 7).

“I think it was outrageous,” Giuliani said. “The halftime show I thought was ridiculous anyway. I don’t know what the heck it was. A bunch of people bouncing around and all strange things. It was terrible.”

Beyonce’s performance – which featured a troupe of black dancers donning black berets in honor of the Black Panthers – was her first live offering of the songs release. the accompanying music video boasts potent symbolism, including a young black boy dancing front of a line of white police officers, a sinking New Orleans police car in the flooded waters of the city, and refreshingly gutsy proclamations of blackness. Widely celebrated by fans who appreciated her prideful take, Giuliani interpreted it as otherwise.

“This is football, not Hollywood, and I thought it was really outrageous that she used it as a platform to attack police officers who are the people who protect her and protect us, and keep us alive,” he continued. “And what we should be doing in the African-American community, and all communities, is build up respect for police officers. And focus on the fact that when something does go wrong, okay. We’ll work on that. But the vast majority of police officers risk their lives to keep us safe.”

Giuliani, who is one of few Americans who don’t look forward to the Super bowl halftime show, also said that Beyonce failed to cater to “Middle America.”

“You’re talking to Middle America when you have the Super Bowl, so if you’re gonna have entertainment, let’s have decent, wholesome entertainment.”
