Rupert Murdoch Apologizes for ‘Real Black President’ Tweet, Calls Barack Obama ‘Charming’
Rupert Murdoch has apologized for a controversial set of tweets that suggested President Obama wasn’t a “real black president,” but GOP candidate Dr. Ben Carson would be if elected.
“Apologies! No offense meant. Personally find both men charming,” the executive chairman of News Corp tweeted on Thursday, referencing Obama and Carson.
Murdoch’s statement came after he received media and social media backlash after endorsing Carson on Twitter.
The tweet in question read, “Ben and Candy Carson terrific. What about a real black President who can properly address the racial divide? And much else.”
Murdoch followed up by directing his followers to a New York Magazine piece that reported on minority communities’ disappointment with Obama — America’s first black president.

CNN and other media outlets immediately pounced on Murdoch’s controversial comments.
As TheWrap previously reported, CNN political analyst Van Jones called Murdoch’s comment “disgusting,” and claimed Fox News is the “enemy of black struggle.”
