Rush Limbaugh Piles 'Praise' on Obama, Laughs at Critics

Update: Later in the program, Limbaugh laughed out loud when he re-read a report from The Hill. "Give me a minute to compose myself," he said through guffaws. Looks like the doubting Thomases were right. Limbaugh's praise for Obama was pure mockery.

President Barack Obama has gotten a lot of credit for ordering the mission that led to the death of Osama bin Laden. Weirdly, one of his biggest proponents this morning seemed to be none other than Rush Limbaugh, who appeared to lavish praise not on the joint chiefs, nor the intelligence advisors, but on Obama himself, as an individual military strategist. But it's so out-of-character for Limbaugh to rave about the president like this that many quickly wrote it off as pure sarcasm (in the comments). Turns out, it was. Here's a bit of what Rush said:

President Obama has continued the Bush policies of keeping a military presence in the Middle East. He did not scrub the mission to get Bin Laden. In fact, it may be that President Obama single-handedly came up with the technique in order to pull this off. You see, the military wanted to go in there and bomb as they always do. They wanted to drop missiles and drop bombs and a number of totally destructive techniques here. But President Obama, perhaps the only qualified member in the room to deal with this, insisted on the Special Forces. No one else thought of that. President Obama. Not a single intelligence adviser, not a single national security adviser, not a single military adviser came up with the idea of using SEAL Team 6 or any Special Forces.

That would have been especially profound when you consider Limbaugh's response to a certain campaign promise in 2007. In August of that year, then-candidate Barack Obama  sent right-wing talking heads into a tizzy when he made a speech promising military action in Pakistan under the right circumstances. "If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won't act, we will," the candidate said.

Limbaugh and other pundits decried the statement as tantamount to a declaration of war in Pakistan. "All right, so, we're going to attack Pakistan. Poor Musharraf's going to get it on both ends if Barack's elected," Rush Limbaugh said at the time. He even compared Obama to Bin Laden, calling him "Barack Uss-Obama." The above statement from Limbaugh today is the closest you might ever come to hearing such a die-hard partisan broadcaster do a complete 180, so take a minute and listen to him say it for real, below.
