    Russia slams Kyoto Protocol

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia supports Canada's decision to pull out of the Kyoto Protocol, says its foreign ministry, reaffirming Friday that Moscow will not take on new commitments.

Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich told Friday's briefing that the treaty does not cover all major polluters, and thus cannot help solve the climate crisis.

Canada on Monday pulled out of the agreement — initially adopted in 1997 in Kyoto, Japan, to cut carbon emissions contributing to global warming. Its move dealt a blow to the treaty, which has not been formally renounced by any other country.

"This is yet another example that the 1997 Kyoto Protocol has lost its effectiveness in the context of the social and economic situation of the 21st century," Lukashevich said, adding that the document does not ensure the participation of all key emitters.

The protocol requires some industrialized countries to slash emissions, but doesn't cover the world's largest polluters, China and the United States.

Canada, Japan and Russia said last year they will not accept new Kyoto commitments.

Two down...192 to go. They are stating the wrong reasons, but going in the right direction. Kyoto won't do anything to combat global warming - it just redistributes money at the discretion of the UN. We definitely don't need that.

If AGW is real, the Kyoto Protocol will not solve the problem.
If AGW is a hoax, the Kyoto Protocol is an ineffective solution for a non-existant problem.
Either way, the Kyoto Protocol has no effect on global warming - it is just about money.

We need to get rid of the UN before the UN gets rid of US.

So, since the UN announced a "landmark deal" coming out of Durban, Canada drops out of the current Kyoto treaty and Russia again states they will not sign up to a Kyoto 2. It certainly looks like the UN was stretching a bit to save face.

Sure did take a long time for Russia to realize, they were about to be screwed, for the greater good.

"Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich told Friday's briefing that the treaty does not cover all major polluters, and thus cannot help solve the climate crisis."

Everyone see this? Even the Russians get it. So far, climate treaties have been nothing more than thinly veiled efforts to cripple Western economies via regulation and soak their treasuries via transfer payments. Unless they are universally applied, they are as meaningless as the paper they have been printed on. China and India laugh all the way to the bank.

I will only support climate treaties that apply eqaully to ALL nations.

Taxing the air you breath, in 1970's it was the coming ice age, today they call it global warming, either way, they are liars. Raising taxes won't change the weather.

kyoto and global "alarming" is the world's largest ponzi scheme and those that are at its head should be thrown in jail. Just follow their money trail like al gored and you'll see all the "proceeds" go to them and nothing to its original "cause".

The Russians are no longer communists (thus they must reject the communist wealth redistribution scheme that allows 80% of the world to do NOTHING while taking money from the successful nations to give it to the beggar nations).

Well, let us see... JAPAN won't support KYOTO agreement. I don't think I need to know any more than that.

Euro? Drowning in debt. Kyoto Protocol? Climate volatility worsens. WTO? U.S. and world ship trillions to China, and China does diddly to open up. Any other multilateral schemes?

I'm glad to see other countries are coming to their senses regarding the Kyoto Protocol. That flawed fiasco the USA was the first nation to reject.

Since the Earth is not a static system and has been heating and cooling its entire existence can one of our enlightened liberal climate experts please breakdown the percent of warming due to manmade influences and the percent due to natural cyclical processes?

So since Japan is pulling out does that mean they will have to change the name? Maybe they should call it something that makes more sense like "Al Gore's Carbon Credit Protocol"

Kyoto is about large Gov. subsidies for technology that is not economically feasible, and many times junk science. Wind mills and solar panels are not working.
