MIAMI (AFP) – Hurricane Ida made landfall as a category one storm on the eastern coast of Nicaragua Thursday, the US-based National Hurricane Center said.
The hurricane barrelled onto the coast of east-central Nicaragua about 75 miles (125 kilometers) north of Bluefields and 65 miles (105 kilometers) south of Puerto Cabezas, the center said in its 1500 GMT advisory.
Ida was packing winds of 75 miles per hour (120 kilometers per hour) and could dump as much as 25 inches (63 centimeters) of rain over the Central American country, the Miami-based center said.
