REGGIO CALABRIA, Italy (AFP) – Italian number one Flavia Pennetta beat American teenager Melanie Oudin 7-5, 6-2 to hand Italy their second Fed Cup title in three years here on Sunday.
After a competitive first set on the red clay, 18-year-old Oudin's inexperience showed in the second as world number 11 Pennetta ran away with the match to the delight of the home crowd.
The victory gave Italy an unassailable 3-0 lead in the match following victories for Pennetta and Francesca Shiavone against Alexa Glatch and Oudin respectively on Saturday.
