FORT HOOD, Texas (AFP) – The suspected shooter said to have killed 13 people and wounded 30 others on a US army base has regained consciousness and is talking, a hospital official said Monday.
"He is talking. He is conversing with the medical staff," Maria Gellegos, spokeswoman for the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, told AFP referring to Major Nidal Hasan.
She refused to say whether Hasan, who was shot by a civilian police officer as he allegedly opened fire in a packed troops processing center in Fort Hood, Texas on Thursday, was talking to army investigators.
An Army probe is struggling to uncover whether Hasan -- a Muslim who is believed to have been the lone gunman -- snapped under the pressure of his job as an army psychiatrist or whether he was motivated by deeper convictions.
