GAZA CITY (AFP) – Israeli troops at the border with Gaza on Friday shot and killed an 18-year-old they said was suspected of planning to carry out an attack but Palestinian witnesses said he was hunting birds.

Another Palestinian was wounded and was detained along with three others, a military spokeswoman said, adding that they will be questioned by the army.

She said army troops opened fire on a group of Palestinians on the Gaza side of the border fence suspected of preparing an attack. She did not know whether they were armed.

Palestinian witnesses on the other hand said the young men were chasing birds near the fence.

The body of Mustafa Wadi, aged 18, was taken to a hospital morgue in Gaza, according to local medical officials.

Later, in an apparent retaliation, Palestinian militants fired a rocket into Israel from Gaza. The rocket fell in an open area in southern Israel, causing no injuries, the army said.
