BERLIN (AFP) – Formula One team Mercedes GP said Wednesday they will reveal the identity of their second driver at the start of 2010 with rumours rife it is set to be seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher.
"We have already recruited the excellent driver Nico Rosberg and we will know at the start of the year who his team-mate wil be," Dieter Zetsche, boss of car manufacturer Daimler which owns Mercedes, told website motor-sport.com.
"We want to see the best drivers in our cars.
"To see Nico Rosberg in our team is a good thing.
"It is certainly a big attraction to have at least one German driver under contract."
The German press here is full of speculation the next Mercedes driver named will be Schumacher, three and a half years after he retired in 2006, who will turn 41 on January 3.
With 91 Grand Prix wins to his name, Schumacher's signature would be a huge boost to the new team which was known as Brawn last season.
The German nearly returned to Formula One in the summer with his former team Ferrari, but a neck injury prevented him from racing.
