Cantor: No retaliation against Cao

NEW ORLEANS – The Republican leader responsible for rounding up GOP House votes says he strongly disagrees with Louisiana Rep. Ahn "Joseph" Cao's (gowz) decision to break party ranks on health care reform.

But House Republican Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia said Tuesday he does not plan retaliation against Cao, the only Republican to vote for the bill on Saturday. Cantor says Cao continues to have GOP support and he thinks Cao can win re-election next year in his New Orleans-based district.

Cao, a Vietnamese American, narrowly defeated Democratic incumbent William Jefferson last year after Jefferson was indicted on corruption charges. He is expected to face a tough re-election campaign in the mostly black, mostly Democratic district.
