JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Police have surrounded an office building in Jefferson City, Mo., across from the governor's mansion after a report that a hostage situation is unfolding.
Police Capt. Mike Smith says authorities got a call around 10 a.m. Tuesday from an alarm company that took a call from a woman who said there was a hostage situation on the fifth floor.
But police haven't confirmed any hostages have been taken, and don't know if it was a prank call. Authorities are blocking traffic in the area and officers with guns are positioned around the building.
State employees were directed to remain in their offices with the doors locked, and police have been gradually evacuating the building.
The governor does not work in the building.
