GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Officials in nine west Michigan lakefront towns are hoping a public television show will boost tourism when warmer weather arrives.

Nine Lake Michigan communities will be featured in an hourlong episode of "Great Lakes Ports of Call" named "Michigan's Beachtowns."

So far, 18 Midwestern public television stations have picked up the show in cities such as Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland and Milwaukee.

"This exposure will certainly increase tourism to our area," Felicia Fairchild, executive director of the Saugatuck-Douglas Convention and Visitors Bureau, told The Grand Rapids Press.

Featured are winemaking and picking apples in New Buffalo, a cruise on a tall ship in South Haven, gallery and beach trips in Saugatuck-Douglas and a lighthouse tour in the Holland segment.

In Grand Haven, there's a Coast Guard Festival, while the Muskegon stop includes submarine and historic home tours. A visit to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes area also features a lighthouse visit and dune buggy safari.

The 150-mile trip ends with a stop at Ludington State Park, one of the state's top camping sites.
