Ideas for Vacationing in Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - A trip to Florida means Disney to some and South Beach to others. Here are some other ideas for vacationing in the Sunshine State.

_A new guide to Florida's hiking trails is out this spring from VisitFlorida, the state's tourism office; details at http://www.visitflorida.com/experience/nature/hiking/.

_A

National Weather Service forecast office that opened in Key West in March at 1315 White St., is open for free weather education tours led by meteorologists, weekdays, 10 a.m.-noon.

_The April 15 issue of the TravelSmart newsletter — http://www.TravelSmartNewsletter.com or (800) 327-3633 — offers a list of unusual things to do in Florida. At the Miami Metrozoo, for example, you can take a Wild Earth Jeep Simulator tour and experience a virtual African safari — without actually going anywhere — or you can take a real trip, 350 feet into the air, in a 10-minute balloon ride, offered at the zoo 8 a.m.-1 p.m., weather permitting.

TravelSmart also recommends the "moon over Miami" night tours of the Vizcaya villa and gardens, scheduled only for nights when the moon is full; http://www.vizcayamuseum.org or (305) 250-9133. Swim with the dolphins at the Miami Seaquarium, or, if you are scuba-certified and 15 or older, dive with the sharks in Tampa at the Florida Aquarium. A daylong program at the

Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral includes simulator exercises that will make you feel like you're walking on the moon, or be a guest lighthouse keeper at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum; http://www.staugustinelighthouse.com or (904) 829-0745.
