Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip of Britain smiling as they pass a couple of "prisoners" in stock, during the royal couple's tour of the old fort at Festival Park in Jamestown, Virginia.

The Jamestown Settlement living history museum opened in Williamsburg for the 350th anniversary of Jamestown's founding.

In early May, the queen returns to Virginia as the "birthplace of America" turns 400.

The schedule for the queen and her husband calls for them to address a special joint session of Virginia's General Assembly in Richmond. The legislative body traces its origins to the House of Burgesses, which first met in Jamestown in 1619. It is heralded as the oldest continuous lawmaking body in the New World.

The queen's May visit also includes a stop at the Jamestown Settlement living history museum and at nearby Historic Jamestowne, the site of the settlers' original triangle-shaped fort and of an ongoing archaeological dig.
