More combat troops for Afghanistan?

President Obama continues to consider the request from his commander in Afghanistan, General Stanley McChrystal, to bolster US forces in that country with additional combat troops. Following a bleak assessment of the Afghanistan situation from McChrystal in August the White House is reviewing possibly new strategies, which may or may not include putting further boots on the ground.

The Intrade market however is almost certain that the President will authorize the deployment of at least 10,000 further combat troops by the end of the year. The market currently shows a 97.0% probability of such a deployment being given the green light. This figure is up sharply following news that additional support troops will be sent to Afghanistan, perhaps in preparation for further combat troops.
