The White House announced this afternoon that President Bush will address the nation today about markets at 9:01 p.m. Eastern.

The White House made an official request to networks to carry it live.

The dramatic move is an effort to shore up support the administration's bailout plan and instill a sense of urgency among waffling, skeptical lawmakers.

The address will be 12 to 14 minutes and delivered from the State Floor of the White House residence, press secretary Dana Perino said.
