Barack Obama's administration continues to take shape after the Senate quickly approved six of his choices for top political positions in the Executive Branch.
By voice vote, the Senate confirmed Susan Rice as the ambassador to the United Nations, Ray LaHood as the transportation secretary, Nancy Sutley to head the White House Council on Environmental Quality, Lisa Jackson as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, Shaun Donovan as the head of Housing and Urban Development and Mary Schapiro to run the Securities and Exchange Commission.
On Monday, the Senate is scheduled to consider the nomination of Timothy Geithner as treasury secretary and Democratic leaders want Attorney General-nominee Eric Holder confirmed by the end of next week.
