In the final weekend before election day and on the heels of Barack Obama's 30-minute infomercial, John McCain scored some prime air time of his own: a guest appearance on "Saturday Night Live."
In the show open, McCain appeared alongside his running mate Sarah Palin (played by, of course, Tina Fey). A few boos could be heard mixed in with the cheers, but McCain took it in stride, delivering his punch lines smoothly.
The schtick: to match Obama's infomercial McCain and Palin appear on QVC, selling campaign merchandise ("Having trouble cutting through a tough piece of pork? Not anymore. With John McCain's complete set of pork knives, they cut the pork out").
Watch for a special appearance from another McCain hawking "McCain Fine Gold".
McCain appeared again later in the show for a segment on "Weekend Update" to lay out some "radical last minute strategies," including "The Reverse Maverick":
"That's where I do whatever anybody tells me. I don't ask questions, I just go with the flow. If that doesn't work I go to the 'Double Maverick.' That's where I go totally berserk and just freak everybody out -- even the regular mavericks."
