Earlier this week, Politico reported that First Lady Michelle Obama and four other White House staffers made People magazine's "100 Most Beautiful" list this year.
It's a no-brainer that Michelle made the list — numerous magazines and websites, both high-brow and low, have dedicated pages and pages to her beauty and style. The New York Times site has no less than four slideshows on what she's worn since becoming first lady.
The other staffers, dubbed "Barack's Beauties" by the magazine, are: White House social secretary Desiree Rogers, assistant White House chef Sam Kass, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner.
Again, no-brainer on some of these picks: Desiree Rogers (she should make the list just for having a name like "Desiree") after all, pals around with Anna Wintour and was the subject of a lengthy feature story in Vogue magazine in February. Rahm Emanuel's dark good looks and the fact that he has the president's ear — sometimes literally — makes sense; and Sam Kass needs no explanation, with his bald pate and two-day-old scruff, manfully hauling around seedlings for Mrs. Obama's garden.
Granted, D.C. isn't exactly a hotbed of pretty young things — no offense Rep. Aaron Schock — but...Timothy Geithner? Really? Sure, he's easy on the eyes, in a "my best friend's dad is sorta of cute" kind of way. But 100 Most Beautiful people in the world? A bit of intrepid investigating by Business Insider revealed what may have contributed to Geithner's inclusion: His brother David is a VP at People magazine.
Here is a list of White House beauties we think were egregiously overlooked:
- Dr. Jill Biden: The vice president's prettier half has a penchant for bright colors and wore knee-high stiletto boots on Inauguration Day. What were you thinking, People? And she's a doctor — enough said.
- Jon Favreau: Not only does Obama's speechwriter share the same name as the writer of an iconic '90s movie, baby, he's got a job most 28-year-olds would kill for and everyone calls him "Favs."
- Reggie Love: Obama's personal assistant is cool. Cooler than "the boss," according to "the boss" himself. Reggie gets to play basketball with Obama and his super-cool alternative job title? The president's "Body Man."
- Kal Penn: The former "House" and "Harold and Kumar" actor ditched the Hollywood Hills for Capitol Hill. Who can resist a man with a passion?
- Lili Ladaga
