Top story overnight: Protests in China over two Muslim Uighurs who were killed last month during a fight with Han coworkers turned violent yesterday, The Associated Press reported. At the time of this writing, 140 people were killed and at least 828 others injured, making it the deadliest ethnic unrest to hit China's volatile western Xinjiang region in decades. The official Xinhua News Agency reported hundreds of people were also arrested after rioters overturned barricades, attacked vehicles and houses and clashed with the police. China Mobile phone service was suspended in the region "to help keep the peace and prevent the incident from spreading further."

In other news: The Organization of American States suspended Honduras for failing to reinstate President Manuel Zelaya. The ousted leader tried to land in Tegucigalpa on Sunday but military personnel on the ground blocked the runways. According to Reuters, at least one person was killed when pro-Zelaya demonstrators marched to the airport and broke through the fencing.

President Barack Obama began his first Moscow summit today with meetings at the Kremlin and a wreath-laying ceremony at Russia's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. According to The AP, Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev are expected to announce progress toward renewing a strategic arms reduction pact that expires in December. However, the countries remain at an impasse over the U.S. pursuit of a missile-defense system in Europe.

Finally, a bankruptcy judge ruled on Sunday that General Motors can sell the bulk of its assets to a new company, The AP reported. U.S. Judge Robert Gerber said the sale was in the best interests of both GM and its creditors.

Most-read stories overnight: Three black-clad gunmen opened fire with automatic weapons at a Miami party early this morning, The AP reported. Police said 12 people were shot in the incident; another person was struck by a vehicle while fleeing the scene. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.

Readers were also interested in this E! Online story about Harry Potter's best friend. Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in the Hollywood adaptations of the bestselling books, is reportedly recovering from a mild case of the swine flu. Grint's doctor confirmed that the British actor is no longer contagious so he is back on the set of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." The next edition in the film series, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," hits theaters on July 15.
