What insiders look forward to Tuesday

In the meantime, we asked them to pick a senator to watch during the question-and-answer portion of the hearing and to say why:

Jesse J. Holland, Supreme Court reporter: "Al Franken has gotta show some gravitas during the hearing or he's going to be considered a joke for his whole time here. Strom Thurmond's reputation went downhill after his halting, stilted questioning during the Clarence Thomas hearings."

Laurie Kellman, Congress reporter: "SPECTER! The guy is tough, fair and independent, and I suspect there will be at least one moment when the Republicans miss him being their lead guy."

Larry Margasak, Congress reporter: "Specter, because he's so unpredictable -- and that would be so no matter which party he belonged to."
