Seven of the most attentive guests are New Haven firefighters in the fourth row. Republicans have turned again and again to the reverse discrimination case of firefighter Frank Ricci, who will be a showcase Republican witness -- probably Thursday.
Ricci challenged New Haven's decision to scrap the reverse discrimination suit against the city of New Haven. It was rejected by a three-judge appeals court panel that included Sotomayor. Two weeks ago the Supreme Court, on a 5-4 vote, overturned the decision to dismiss the suit.
