Sen. John Cornyn tried to smoke out Sonia Sotomayor's position on abortion. The Texas Republican cited a newspaper story that liberals were worried about her abortion stance and wondered why they were concerned. He asked whether the White House asked her about abortion.
His strategy failed.
"I was not asked by anyone including the president" about any specific legal issue, she said. She gave her stock answer: "I follow the law."
Another Republican certainly will try again.
