    Saint Leo's Online Human Resources Degree Endorsed by Top Professional Association

    Society for Human Resource Management recognizes high-quality learning experience at Donald R. Tapia School of Business

    Saint Leo University’s bachelor of arts degree program in human resource management—including the regionally accredited online human resources degree—has been reviewed by the influential Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and has been confirmed to meet SHRM guidelines for undergraduate programs, announces Dr. Michael Nastanski, dean of the Donald R. Tapia School of Business at the Florida liberal arts university.

    SHRM is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. The Society advances the interests of the HR profession by providing resources, global best practices and a network of valuable contacts to more than 5,000 members in over 140 countries.

    This SHRM news is “increasing recognition of the high-quality learning experience” at Saint Leo's International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE)-accredited Donald R. Tapia School of Business, says Dean Nastanski.

    SHRM has developed guidelines to define the minimum content that should be studied by college students majoring in human resource management. This work is part of the Society's broader academic initiative to set standards degree programs may follow. Students and prospective students, in turn, benefit from knowing the education they receive meets the expectations of leaders in the field.

    “The Donald R. Tapia School of Business has always understood the value and quality of Saint Leo’s undergraduate degree in human resource management,” says Dr. J. Adam Shoemaker, an assistant professor at the Donald R. Tapia School of Business who coordinated the academic review efforts with the Society. “SHRM’s confirmation that our curriculum aligns with academic and professional expectations for what an HR degree should include further cements Saint Leo as a competitor on an international stage. SHRM is the predominant professional association in the field of HR, and its endorsement of what we offer to our students is a tribute to the quality of our faculty, our school and our university."

    Saint Leo University received a reaffirmation of its university-wide accreditation in December 2011 from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) for the next 10 years. Among the top Catholic universities in Florida, Saint Leo offers the B.A. in human resource management at the Tampa-area University Campus, and at many Saint Leo University regional education centers, located in seven states. The university also offers an online human resources degree for adult learners throughout the country.

    The online human resources degree prepares students for careers in the fields of staffing, training and development, compensation, and employee and labor relations, and for graduate education. Students may also opt for a minor in human resource management in combination with any academic major.
