Samsung Galaxy S6 Pre-Orders Start March 27, On Sale April 10

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were built to out-sexy, out-shoot and outlast the iPhone 6, and now they finally have a release date. The two metal-and-glass flagship phones will go on sale through all the major carriers (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and U.S. Cellular) starting April 10, but you'll be able to pre-order either device Friday, March 27. Carriers are releasing final pricing today.

Smaller and discount carriers, such as Boost Mobile, Cricket and Metro PCS, will carry only the Galaxy S6, not the curved S6 Edge. However, you'll be able to get both phones at Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, Sam's Club, Target and Walmart.

To recap, both the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge share the same specs and hardware, including a Samsung Exynos octa-core processor, 3 GB of RAM and 32GB of storage to start (64GB and 128GB options will be available). Both handsets also boast vibrant 5.1-inch quad HD Super AMOLED displays. However, only the pricier S6 Edge has a curved display, which looks futuristic-chic and enables quick access to your favorite contacts and news tickers with a swipe.

MORE: Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Preview - Pros and Cons

With the S6 and S6 Edge, Samsung basically started over with a redesign that emphasizes premium materials, including Gorilla Glass 4 on the front and back and an aluminum frame. The result is a stunning aesthetic that rivals -- if not beats -- the iPhone. The U.S. version will come in White Peal, Black Sapphire and Gold Platinum. We're more excited about the latter two hues because the color seems to shift depending on how light reflects off the surface. For instance, the black can also look blue.

Other key features include a quick-launch camera that performs much better in low light, built-in wireless charging and an improved home button that makes it easier to log in with your fingerprint. Samsung Pay is coming this summer, which will supposedly let you pay for things on the go in more locations than Apple Pay, because the S6 supports both Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) and NFC.

As we noted in our in-depth preview, Samsung left some features on the cutting room floor to achieve such a sleek design. These omissions include expandable storage, a removable battery and water resistance. We have both the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in hand and will be bringing your our full reviews as soon as possible, including benchmark results, battery life and photo comparisons.

In the meantime, if there's anything you want to know about the S6 or S6 Edge, let us know in the comments.
