    San Diego State University Joins Forces to Offer Biotech Training Through Collaborative Grant Project

    This BRIDGE Project is made possible by a $4.95 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant. It will ultimately provide education, training, and placement services to more than 1,000 participants including veterans, dislocated, unemployed, and incumbent workers within the Greater San Diego region.

    The collaborative BRIDGE Project provides grant funding for education, training, and employment support services to eligible participants who have a desire to work in the life sciences and biotechnology industries. BRIDGE programs are offered through San Diego State University, the BIOCOM Institute, Miramar College, and the San Diego Workforce Partnership.

    Dina Hamideh is an example of a student who received grant funding through the Biotechnology Readiness, Immersion, Certification and Degrees for Gainful Employment (BRIDGE) Project. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in regulatory affairs, but it would not have been possible without the BRIDGE Project.

    “It was literally a miracle and blessing. The BRIDGE grant, I believe is going to help a lot of individuals, such as myself, to be successful in the market. I know in the regulatory affairs industry, there’s a demand,” she said.

    The BRIDGE Project is made possible by a $4.95 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant. It will ultimately provide education, training, and placement services to more than 1,000 participants including veterans, dislocated, unemployed, and incumbent workers within the Greater San Diego region.

    “The BRIDGE grant is designed to provide pathways to employment for students in high school to individuals with advanced graduate degrees,” said Joe Shapiro, dean of SDSU's College of Extended Studies. “This grant will help veterans, unemployed and underemployed workers, and others who are seeking stable employment in the life sciences and biotechnology industries – key economic drivers for the greater San Diego region.”

    Space is currently available for the Life Sciences Summer Institute and the Life Science Immersion Program.
