    Santorum: 'Miraculous Turnaround' for Hospitalized Daughter Bella

    MIAMI, Fla. – Rick Santorum said his youngest daughter Bella has made a “miraculous turnaround” after being hospitalized for pneumonia and delaying his return to the campaign trail this weekend.
     
    “Thank you so much for those prayers. They have lifted us up,” Santorum told a group of Florida voters on a tele-town hall he held Sunday evening. He added that his daughter was “alert” after what he described as a “very, very tough night” for his family on Saturday. She is currently wearing a mask to assist her breathing, and is expected to spend between two and four more days in the hospital, he said.

    Bella, 3, was born with a severe genetic abnormality that claims the lives of most children within a year of birth.

    Santorum had left Florida on Friday to hold events in Philadelphia and prepare his tax returns for public release from his home in Virginia. He joked that he owed thanks to the press for sending him home to produce the documents, which meant he was close by when his daughter fell ill. She was admitted to a local hospital in Virginia, he said, not to her usual hospital in Philadelphia.

    The former Pennsylvania senator will not be returning to Florida ahead of Tuesday's primary. His campaign issued a new schedule Sunday night that put him Cottleville, Mo. on Monday afternoon to give "a major address focusing on jobs, the economy, and American competitiveness."

    Santorum also planned to hold a town hall Monday in Luverne, Minn.; a rally Tuesday in Lone Tree, Colo., and a Florida primary watch party Tuesday night in Las Vegas. All four of those states have contests coming up, starting with the Nevada caucuses Saturday.

    Polls in Florida show Santorum well behind Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich and his campaign had been weighing how hard to compete here. His campaign held previously scheduled events in the state on Sunday, but his daughter Elizabeth and members of reality TV's Duggar family attended in his stead.

      I watched my son suffering with Pneumonia and had to transfer him to the Children's Hospital ICU for 5 days so I feel for the little girl and her family. Hope she pulls out of it ok.

      I am happy to hear his daughter is making a speedy recovery. I truly hope Santorum will remember to thank the doctors and medical science, and not stiff them in favor of thanking God for a miracle. For although he is one of the anti-science, teach-Creationism-in-school types, it was good ole Science that saved the life of his daughter. If he has an epiphany and recognizes this, THEN a miracle has been performed.

        If Rick Santorum was an anti-science Christian, then why would he put his daughter into the hospital? Your bigotry shows through when you make blanket statements like that. The only Christian faith that I know of to only believe in avoiding doctors are those that belong to the "Christian Science" faith. Mr. Santorum happens to be Catholic. Now, about praying for the health of his child is having faith in the Almighty and also having faith that the doctors are inspired by God to help his little girl in her recovery. Most Christians are not ignorant about science and believe that science is important in the developements of medicines out there that will someday cure many of the now thought of incurable diseases. It is that we Christians pray for God's inspiration to show these scientist and doctors the way.

      This is not the time to play politics, this is a real life for a kid and no one should wish Santorum family any ill.

      Thank God she has health insurance, however, isn't it interesting that Santorum would deny the same to all other children. I think he would refer to it as socialism.

        Hes old fashioned, he feels one should pay for and work for their benefits, not have them subsidized by those who do work. You seem to think that if we cover all it is free. As we adopt more of these entitlements, and we will, we will find that the economy will crash, and the only ones to survive will be the government and those holding the pursestrings

      Let me begin by thanking the good Lord that this child is doing better and seems to have gotten past this hurdle in what sounds like a very tricky illness.

      Now, I hate to ruffle feathers, but is anyone else at least a bit suspicious that right after the Jacksonville Primary last week, Mr. Santorum said he was going home because he was broke and obviously trailing Newt and Romney and this happens all of a sudden? I don't mean to cast doubt on the illness of his child but a guy who's broke and who's campaign is fading fast was able to thrust himself back into the national spotlight due to his daughter's sudden hospitalization? Every news station is talking about him and he just got all of the free public attention that anyone could need to get right back on the horse...and no sooner that this hospitalization story spreads like wildfire there is a "Miraculous recovery"?

      I know it sounds like I'm hating on him but in watching 3 of the debates so far I've actually been not only impressed by him but I'm hoping to see more of him. I just hope that this is all legit because a man who has stood fast with his belief system is risking a lot more than a presidential campaign if this is in any way a hoax.

      Maybe now Rick will have some feelings for all the families who don't have anything near his level of health insurance? If they have any insurance at all. We all have kids, Mister Santorum. We all have Bella's. And we want the best for them too!

        This is America, Michael. Nobody is being turned away at emergency rooms. All the Bellas, not matter what the situation, would be cared for. The difference is who ends up paying for it.

      Yea I got the ticket, we all get free healthcare, I mean why should anyone pay for it, Hell food too, #$%$ greedy farmers, 'Doctors, Hospitals, and the grocers too. Gas is too high so no money for the oil companies either. the government should supply our every need, I mean they can always print money ya know?       Individual Liberty, including totally free entrepreneurship for every American, can allow us all to have the more equal prosperity to not need the ponzi scheme of insurance that's artificially protected by made-up Republican and Democrat laws. Electing a Libertarian Party majority, or even a minority, by write-in, if necessary, where possible, to help Ron Paul or Lee Wrights or another Libertarian nominee as President, with the other as Vice President, with a Libertarian cabinet, can ensure the ongoing success in restoring individual Liberty to every American to freely create his or her own and our country's entrepreneurial prosperity for equality of opportunity and more equal well-being for all, self- and voluntary common defense, more affordable health, economic (true) morality, and therefore, harmony and peace--allowing the same for all others (instead of discriminatory wage-slavery and war to keep the Republican elites in their exclusive privileges or, welfare dependency on the Democrats along with gratuitous regulations to keep individuals from becoming free, innovative, entrepreneurial competitors of the elites). Voting for these Libertarian candidates can begin to build that Libertarian presence in our government:
