Santorum Slams Obama‘s ’Hubris‘ and ’Snobbery’ On Education

Rick Santorum campaigns at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at St. Anselm College Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, …

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum slammed President Barack Obama’s education goals while speaking at a forum at St. Anselm’s New Hampshire Institute of Politics Saturday.

The former Pennsylvania senator lambasted the Obama Administration, describing that he was “outraged” when hearing President Obama say that he believes “every child in America should go to college.”

“The hubris of this president to think that he knows what’s best for you. I have seven kids, maybe they’ll all go to college. But if one of my kids wants to go and be an auto mechanic, good for him, that’s a good paying job, using your hands, using your mind,” said Santorum Saturday.

“This is the kind of snobbery that we see from those that think they know how to run our lives. Rise up America, defend your own freedoms.”

CNN video of Santorum’s heated remarks:

CBS News notes that the statement is part of a ongoing message that Santorum has made about inequality. At the event in Manchester, CBS reports that Santorum noted he wanted to created an economy that helps those left behind:

“We create private sector jobs by helping the private sector be successful…putting someone directly in someone’s pocket is not going to create manufacturing jobs. That isn’t going to make the local steel manufacturer or fabricator more competitive,” Santorum said in response to a question from National Journal Editor-in-Chief Ron Fournier.

CNN reports that Santorum believes the federal government should have a “very limited” role in education, advocating for “flexible and personalized approaches to education for each child to best maximize their potential.”

Santorum is an embarrassment to intelligent people of this country with his far right ideas about imposing his personal moral standard on the citizens should he become president. He obviously doesn't understand that he attempting to run for president, not monarch.

Hey Rick - "College" is a metaphor for "getting some type of advanced education or training that will afford a child a better chance at competing in the workplace". You're not bright at all.

Hey Pennsylvania people is it true Santorum used taxpayer money to pay for his children's private schooling in another state while he was in office?

And according to the reports Pennsylvania paid for his kids education and he wasn't even living in the state at the time. How is that for hubris?

If I were Santorum I would leave the Obama snobbery issue based on his education background alone. It just does not gel and points a finger directly back to him that is don't tell me you are are less educated than Obama. Yes, education for a Presidential Candidate counts to many because the level of work ethics, ability to stand the grind, and intelligence!!
