Sarah Palin's Triumphant Return to Fox

Sarah Palin, former governor of Alaska and failed vice presidential hopeful, visited Fox & Friends this morning and the show pulled out all the stops for its old star: booking Sen. Ted Cruz, waking up afternoon anchor Megyn Kelly to guest-host, and showcasing some tricked out RVs. We watched so you didn't have to.

Palin on Fox News is a win-win for both brands. Everyone tunes into Fox to see if Palin and Fox chief Roger Ailes have patched things up. And for Palin, it helps keeps her relevance going. Palin has been enjoying a resurgence of late due to the series of scandals facing the Obama administration. What also helps Palin are high-profile Republicans like Sen. Lindsey Graham speaking out in favor of NSA snooping—it allows her to talk about the Republican ideal of small government.

It's not unlike the way people flock to gold during an economic crisis. The Palin tsunami was in full force during Ralph Reed's Faith and Freedom Conference—the site where Jeb Bush assured conference goers that immigrants were "more fertile" than Americans, effectively setting the table for Palin to deliver dinner. "It’s dangerous, touchy territory to debate this over one race’s fertility rate, and I say this as one who’s kind of fertile herself..." she said at the conference

According to Salon's Joan Walsh, her hair was as big as it was in the height of her potency and the former governor of Alaska was as smug as ever—way more smug than she was when she brought a big gulp on stage during the NRA conference.  "I realized that Palin’s star really is rising again, at a time of heightened racial insecurity on the white far-right. They need a hero, and here she is again," Walsh writes, and adds: "Palin’s return to Fox shows that Roger Ailes knows the GOP can’t win back the White House in 2016, so he may as well focus on consolidating his audience"—which is why she's now a contributor.

The Guest. One of the big things to see was how welcome Palin was in the House of Ailes.  Would it be like the Game of Thrones Red Wedding? Is <strike>Walder Frey</strike> Roger Ailes really okay with the return of the <strike>Wolf </strike> Mama Grizzly of the North? Signaling a truce, the show invited the very Palin-friendly Sen. Ted Cruz on who praised Palin "fearlessness":

The Megyn Kelly Factor. Ailes had Fox favorite Megyn Kelly on this morning which to some Fox viewers is a special treat. There is a post on Twitchy recapping this morning Kelly excitement and calling today's show "The Best Monday Ever." Better than Memorial Day? Maybe!

The Quote: "Let Allah sort it out" (in reference to Syria) and the references to her fertility were the Palin zingers from the weekend. Today's show didn't have as much oomph to it. But she did get to unleash this nugget on the world in taking down CBS's Elizabeth Palmer: "Elizabeth, you just put the BS in CBS."  Palmer had a report on the Iranian elections and used the Tea Party in an analogy.

The RV. Yes, for some reason Palin was put in a fancy RV.
