It’s a sad time for Sarah Silverman, as the comedienne’s mother, Beth Ann O'Hara, has died at 73. On Monday, Silverman — the youngest of five children — took to Twitter to share a touching tribute to her late mom.

“Wednesday morning my Mom died,” the 44-year-old star wrote. “She was a know-it-all in overalls & two different colored socks. And defiantly, no bra.”

Then Silverman’s message took a more serious turn. “The woman who, when I was little, gave me detailed directions to a restaurant ladies room then secretly watched as I found my way to it on my own,” she recalled before adding, “The woman who went back to college at 42, and skinny dipped in ponds, and told me never to protect myself from a broken heart because it was so very worth the pain to get to experience love.”

Alongside the heartfelt message, Silverman posted a throwback shot of O'Hara clad in a pair of those famed overalls and flashing a brilliant smile.

O'Hara was surrounded by her children and grandchildren at the time of her death, E! Newsreports. A memorial service and private burial were held on Friday.

Like her daughter Sarah, O'Hara had a successful career in entertainment, founding the New Thalian Players, where she produced and directed an impressive 50 plays over the course of 25 years. According to New Hampshire Public Radio, she was known as “mom” to many aspiring actors.

In 2003, O'Hara received the lifetime achievement award at the New Hampshire Counsel of the Arts — and it was Silverman who gave a moving speech as she presented her mother with the honor. The actress described her mother as “Loving, nurturing, caring, colorful — she used to wear two different color socks, I’m not sure she was aware of that — supportive, honest, strong, and with endless creativity and energy,” Sarah began her description of her mother. “She gives us the feeling that we fill her heart with love and I think it’s because we fill her heart with love. Mom, we feel the same. You fill our hearts, as well.”

It certainly seems that O'Hara touched many lives and even though she is gone, she will not be forgotten
