‘Satan Doesn’t Have Any More Authority’: Rangers’ Josh Hamilton Gives First Post-Relapse Interview to Pastor Robison on GBTV

    Video follows below.

Touched by his story of addiction and road to recovery, Glenn Beck wanted the poignant story of Major League Baseball All Star Josh Hamilton to be told. During Wednesday night's episode of The Glenn Beck Program on GBTV, Hamilton gave viewers a candid look inside his soul as he discussed his personal demons and the redemption he is now finding through faith, with Pastor James Robison.

Hamilton has struggled with drugs and alcohol for a number of years and although he was in recovery at the time, he confirmed suffering a slip-up with alcohol in early 2009. Most recently, Hamilton acknowledged that he had a "moment of weakness" at two Dallas restaurants in early February 2012.

In talking about his struggle with addiction and multiple relapses, Hamilton believes one of the reasons for his relapses is that he had yet to let God "take control" and release the troubles from his past.

Now confident that "Satan doesn't have any more authority" over him or his life, an optimistic Hamilton ceded that he is not totally "fixed" and that the road to recovery will remain a process.

"I can always use prayer from people," he said.

As the discussion progressed, the Rangers' outfielder told Pastor Robison that he is learning from his mistakes and is, in essence, going through a "spiritual reprogramming." He added that he wants to let people into his world and even admits that he "sucks" sometimes

Hamilton also revealed that he loves Jesus with all his heart but that there was "a long time I didn't know Jesus."

He said his main goal is to be a role model who, while not perfect, will forever strive to correct his mistakes, love Jesus and his family.

At the end of the day Hamilton acknowledges that he must continue to tackle the triggers for his addiction but realizes that his faith, love of God, his family and other people will be what sees him through the storm.

Watch the full interview below, it is nearly 30 minutes long. Shorter clips follow below, but the full interview is heartening and worth taking the time:

Below is a clip of  Hamilton discussing the media's reaction to his addiction and living with the mistakes he has made:

The baseball star can also be viewed in a shorter clip speaking about his relapse. The video can be viewed here on GBTV

A clip of Hamilton speaking about his return can likewise be viewed by clicking here.

The All Star often speaks publicly about how Jesus saved him, placing an important emphasis on his faith. He wrote an autobiography titled, Beyond Belief, which explains his path to sobriety through the relationship he found with God.

Well aren't you all nice and supportive...........Funny how everyone is wishing josh well, sending him prayers, hoping for the best and to get past his CONSTANT drug and alcohol abuse......but when certain athletes of a different persuasion get pulled over for a DUI they are a dumb ghetto thug, and lazy troublemaker............Flip over to the story about JT Thomas (Bears) getting busted with marijuana, where are all your supportive comments?

I was convinced of the existence of Satan long before I believed in God.

      Good for you Josh!

20 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen

Don't get me wrong. I commend you, for your effort and current success, in your fight to control your alcohol /addictions....and would wish you well, in that endeavor.
BUT, "the devil made me do it", is just giving "yourself" an excuse, for over indulgence and bad behavior. It is not taking "personal" responsibility..(wasn't me, it was Satan)

I daresay, that perhaps the cause of your problems was closer to "addictive personality", more so, than demonic possession.

There is a vicious battle by the spirits (good and evil) for our souls. If you want to read an excellent book about this read "Regions of Captivity" by Dr. Anna Mendez Ferrell.

Josh is a great ball player and I wish him well, but I see a South Park episode coming.

Here is a thought. Man up and take responsibility for you and your actions. If you cannot handle something do not do it. Quit blaming others for your actions. If you blame SATAN for your boozing then god should be blamed for all of the pathetic priests who rape boys

Josh blames himself for giving in to Satan. GOOD MAN!!!

A lot of people would blame government for not making enough anti-dependancy funding available then they'd file a lawsuit against the bar, the taxi cab driver, the company that made the alcohol, etc.

For all the criticism Hamilton is taking, he's a lot more honest with himself, his family, his friends, his co-workers, and the public than them doing all the criticizing.

Are you kidding me?! He's not taking responsibility. He's blaming HIS choice on an his imaginary friend's adversary.
