Savannah Guthrie to Anchor ‘NBC Nightly News’ Monday Evening

“Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie is expected to anchor “NBC Nightly News” Monday evening, according to a person familiar with the situation, as Lester Holt deals with a family medical emergency.

Holt is expected to return to the program. He has taken the anchor chair of the nation’s most-watched evening-news broadcast since NBCUniversal suspended Brian Williams for six months in the wake of his admission that he falsified details about a 2003 NBC News excursion to Iraq in which he took part. Holt has maintained “Nightly’s” lead among viewers, though ABC’s “World News,” anchored by David Muir, won more viewers in the demographic favored by advertisers in news programming, people between 25 and 54, for the five days between February 16 and February 20.

Guthrie has anchored “NBC Nightly News” in the past, filling in on occasion for Williams.
