Saying Goodbye: Change in the 112th Congress

Not every representative and senator who is sworn in at the beginning of a Congress is around for the end of their terms. Some step down for other jobs or in the wake of scandal, and a few, sadly, prove all too mortal. Others may stay until the end of their terms, but don't plan on seeking reelection out of a desire to retire from politics or to seek other elective positions.

Now early in the second session of the 112th Congress, here's the breakdown of representatives and senators who've left—or plan to leave—Congress, and those who are seeking election to other offices.

Below are those representatives who've announced that they are running for offices other than their current House seats:

Please, somebody. Take the time to compare these peoples' net worths when they took office and their net worths when they left office - and which ones are now lobbyists (or working in D.C. for some special interest organization with a patriotic name.)

"Good riddance!" Comes immediately to mind. I'm sure many are good, dedicated, hard working citizens and deserve our thanks. But I'm also of the opinion that some should: [1] be in jail; [2] be drummed out like Dreyfus; [3] be euthanized. Re: [3] for those whose bank balances skyrocketed based on insider trading information for which Mr. & Mrs. Joe Average American would have been sent to the equivalent of Devil's Island.

When any Pol. runs for office it would be nice to have them hooked up to a lie detecter when they have a debate or town meeting and if they lied they would receive a shock, it would be fun to watch on who gets shocked less.

Maybe with luck after the 2012 elections the number of names in the "retired" column will be significantly higher.

Democraps are really screwed. Republicans are positioned to take both houses and the Presidency. Can't wait.

What planet do you live on? I can't think of a single Pub who has won any office, since Jan 2011. "Positioned" is right- to lose.

all of you are stupid for arguing over "parties" how about for whats just best for the country for a change ? instead of automatically trying to do just the opposite of the other party just because they are the other party !

The sheer number of Democratic officeholders that are "retiring" tells me that it's not about other opportunities at all--it's rats deserting a sinking ship.

Both dems and repubs go for the highest bidder. Dr Paul goes for America.
