School bus gets stuck in sinkhole while carrying students in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A school bus carrying students hit a sinkhole on Friday morning in Portsmouth.

The bus from Douglass Park Elementary School was in the area of Highland and Oak streets when the road gave way underneath, per Portsmouth Schools spokesperson Lauren Nolasco. Two students were on board at the time and no injuries were reported. However an EMT was called as a precautionary measure.

Portsmouth police say the bus’ rear tire was stuck in the sink hole when they arrived, and parents and the school were contacted.
