Screenshot Captor review

Screenshot Captor is a convenient way to take and edit screenshots, and it provides you with a lot of versatility in terms of what you can do once you've taken the shot. No matter what you need these images for, this program gives you the tools you need to make them look just the way you want.

Pros

Quick access: There are several ways you can initiate a screenshot through this program. There is a small bar that initially opens at the top of the screen, but that you can reposition at any time, that contains a row of buttons for the various kinds of screenshots available through the program. And you can use the preprogramed hotkeys to take screenshots as well.

Editing tools: Once you've captured your shot, you'll find all the tools you need to dress it up all right in this program. There are options for adding captions and clipart, as well as multiple choices in terms of frames, edges, borders, and shadows. You can also include text, crop, and resize the image.

Cons

Quirks and bugs: While this program generally works well overall, there are a few curious issues we encountered during testing. For instance, the separate bar with quick buttons for taking screenshots doesn't always behave the way you'd like it to when you move it. Sometimes it disappears, and other times, it will move on its own to a different part of the screen after you release it. There are also hotkeys configured for some screenshot options but not others, but it's not clear why that's the case.

Registration process: This program is free for personal use, but you still need to obtain a license code to use it, and that process is rather involved. It includes visiting the developer's website, registering on their forum, confirming your account, and then finally retrieving the code from a separate page that you can then paste into the app. You'll also need to repeat this process every six months for the first year you use the program unless you opt to make a donation to the developers.

Bottom Line

Screenshot Captor is a handy free program that performs its stated functions well overall. It includes a nice set of tools and some convenient options for accessing the program quickly. The convoluted registration process is meant to encourage donations, which is understandable, but it would be nice if you could test the program out for a brief period without registering
