Seahawks' Okung lands on IR but could return

The Seattle Seahawks placed tackle Russell Okung on injured reserve with the designation to return, and they signed tackle Caylin Hauptmann.

Both moves were widely reported last week, but the official announcement didn't come until Monday.

Okung, a Pro Bowl performer last season, has a torn ligament in his left big toe. He will miss at least eight games and cannot return until the Seahawks' Nov. 17 home game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Paul McQuistan is starting at left tackle in Okung's absence.

Only one player per team can be placed on the IR-designated to return list each season.

Seattle plucked Hauptmann off the Cleveland Browns' practice squad. Cleveland signed him in April as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Florida International.
