Seattle mayor to unveil $15 minimum wage plan

SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle Mayor Ed Murray is scheduled Thursday to release his plan on how to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Murray's announcement comes after his advisory group did not reach an agreement to present to him. The advisory group of business, labor, nonprofit and other representatives was formed last December to chart a path.

Facing Murray is a slew of different options. Businesses are pushing for a phase-in, crediting tips and health care benefits in total wages, while other groups are pushing for an immediate wage hike on big employers and a limited phase-in for small and medium sized businesses.

The group, 15 Now, has filed a city charter amendment measure that it will run if Murray's and the City Council's proposal has too many exemptions.
